Before my counselling career, I was consumed by all matters of food and hospitality. Whether I was baking for hours, catering for the multitudes or managing gourmet businesses, my enthusiasm for food has left an unforgettable imprint on all of my senses. I still get enormous joy from preparing and sharing food. It's part of my self care strategy for improving social connections and keeping me grounded.
Since 2008, my professional focus has been on counselling. I have developed a collaborative approach to therapy that includes Humanistic and Mindfulness practices. This approach allows me to explore the best ways forward in assisting you to take responsibility for your lived experiences. The trust that is built within our therapeutic relationship is core to the quality of the counselling process. Life can be overwhelming and painful at times. Counselling allows you a safe space to explore your concerns and world views. Counselling can help you to identify, understand and consider these concerns and views, that may be impacting on the choices you are currently making. Making more informed choices can improve your overall quality of life.
Counselling can also improve your awareness of how to better manage difficult times in your life. Through our counselling process we will work towards building healthier relationships, cultivating ways of being in your own life that deliver better outcomes and learn how you can experience your own freedom, love, health and happiness.
I work with individuals and couples. You may be questioning your relationships, levels of intimacy or sexual health. You may be managing ongoing recovery from addictions. Or you may be confronted by everyday anxieties that have grown out of past traumatic events and life transitions. I am passionate and well informed in working with people from lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) communities. Over the past six years I have been fortunate to work more closely with the trans and gender diverse (TGD) community.
As well as private practice I also work with the older LGBTQ+ communities and currently coordinate Ageing Program at ACON, better known as the LOVE Project or Living Older Visibly and Engaged.
